학Co: Youth Precarity Guest Lecture

The first guest lecture of the year organised by the education committee (학Co) was, to their surprise, a huge success! 🌟 On Wednesday 8 October, Dr. Shimpei Cole Ota pulled the audience into the world of the precarious South Korean youth during his open lecture on this subject. Through a non-political lens and personal quotes from interviewees, the tensions and mindsets of the Korean youth were laid bare: the enormous pressure to perform at work, sky-high house prices and the resulting feeling that it is almost impossible to build a stable life. Well-known phenomena and terms such as ‘Hell Chosun’ and ‘N- 포세대’ stimulated the students to once again consider why South-Korea is not always the utopia it seems. 🤔 

After everyone enjoyed the lecture and cookies or thee, there was room for a Q&A session that turned into a short but interesting debate. Due to the enthusiasm of the audience, even this part of the lecture remained fascinating to listen to and the lecture was concluded wonderfully.
